Formula used
CGPA = Σ(grade point × credit hours) / Σ(credit hours)

Worked example
Three subjects: A (8) × 4 credits, B+ (7) × 3 credits, A+ (9) × 3 credits.
Σ(grade × credit) = 8×4 + 7×3 + 9×3 = 32 + 21 + 27 = 80
Σ(credits) = 4 + 3 + 3 = 10 → CGPA = 80 / 10 = 8.0
Frequently asked questions
What is CGPA?
CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is your overall grade point average across all subjects, weighted by their credit hours, usually reported on a 10-point scale in India.
How is CGPA calculated?
Each subject's grade is converted to a grade point, multiplied by its credit hours, and those products are summed and divided by the total credit hours. Add one row per subject below.
Which grade scale does this use?
The 10-point scale common in India, where O is 10, A+ is 9, A is 8, B+ is 7, B is 6, C is 5, P is 4, and F is 0. If your institution uses different points, the formula is the same and only the mapping changes.
Why are credit hours important?
A 4-credit subject should count twice as much as a 2-credit one. Weighting by credits means a high score in a heavy subject moves your CGPA more than the same score in a light subject.
Does this convert to a GPA on 4.0?
Not directly, but the GPA calculator on this site applies the same weighting on the 4.0 scale, so you can see both views of the same results.
